UNDERSTANDING MY PACKAGE COSTS ~ For many, it is very common to not understand what goes in to being a wedding photographer and thus, a business owner. It is often confusing to newly engaged couples why photographers charge what they do. Unlike many other photographers, I'd like to share with you a little insight to help you better understand the associated costs and in turn, help you to understand that as your wedding photographer, I am not trying to take you for all you're worth!

  • Payment for my time spent with you before, on and after your wedding day. A lot of work goes into making your photography dreams come true! Before the wedding, its time spent learning about you and your wedding plans and planning a perfect day for photos. Often times with me, this also includes helping my couples with the planning of their wedding day timeline to ensure that they're able to make the most out of their time with me. On the wedding day, its time spent photographing every special moment that you and your significant other share with one another and your guests. While you're focused on marrying the love of your life, I am getting into awesome (but sometimes, backbreaking, lol!) positions to create unique and distinctive photos. After photographing an 8 hour wedding, especially in the California summer heat, the wedding hangover can be real!! After the wedding, its time spent at the computer curating and editing your photos to perfection. Although this can be done in my pajamas, the average amount of time I spend editing photos is 15+ hours. So from beginning to end, I could end up working up to 30 hours to provide my couples with fabulous photos!
  • Business overhead- this includes; the cost of purchasing/replacing/maintaining my camera equipment including the cost of film rolls + development, the cost of insurance for my equipment and my business, the cost of my website and domain, the cost of my professional editing software, the cost of gas to and from each shoot location, the cost of business and car insurance, and last but not least, the good chunk of change that I have to surrender to Uncle Sam every year (don't ya just love taxes? Insert sarcasm here... haha!)
  • Payment to my independent contractors - when I have an assistant help me on your wedding day or if your package includes a second shooter, I have to pay them for their work.
  • All other bills- profits earned after taxes and business expenses do go towards the general cost of living and typical bills of life!

So, although I charge a specific amount for each package, I am not walking away with that amount and in order for me to keep my business afloat and maintain success in this industry, I have to price myself competitively.

Ok, so now that you've seen package options, I'd like to share a little insight into how I work and what you can look forward to if you're considering hiring me to photograph your wedding!

  • When a couple is interested in hiring me to photograph their wedding, I like to schedule an initial consultation. This can be done via telephone or in person. If possible, an in-person consultation is best because it allows us the ability to get a good feel for each other and allows you to see if my personality will be a good fit! During the consultation, I like to take time to learn about your love story and your journey and the plans you have for your wedding. I will then share with you my history and experience, share a few albums of mine with images from past weddings and give you a platform to ask questions pertaining to your needs. Once I know about your wedding day plans and what you're needing, I like to give you the opportunity to "sleep on it". Not your typical salesmanship, huh?! Well, that's the point! Choosing your wedding photographer is by far, one of the most important decisions you will make during the course of your wedding planning and the last thing I want is to make you feel like I'm pushing you into something. Now don't get me wrong, if you're certain that I'm the one for you right then and there, I will draft a personalized contract and reserve your date immediately! But my ultimate goal is to give you the opportunity to make your decision based on your instincts and whether you feel I'm a good fit, not pushing you into choosing me just to close the deal. I want you to choose to hire me based on knowing that I am the right photographer for you!

  • Yay!! This is such an important moment, marking the end of your search for a photographer! If you have decided that you wish for me to photograph your wedding, the next step is getting you booked and reserving your date. This is a very simple process and will ensure that I am available to you on your wedding date. How it works ~ I will input all of your wedding day information into a personalized contract. Although this should go without saying, it is incredibly important that you read the contract thoroughly to avoid any confusion or possible misunderstandings. Your contract will be straightforward and include all pertinent wedding day information along with my basic business terms and conditions. You are more than welcome to have an attorney review it prior to signing.  The contract can be signed electronically or in person, depending on your personal preferences. We will both retain a copy with all signatures. Upon the signing of the contract, a 50% retainer is due. The retainer reserves your date. Once your retainer is paid, you will receive a receipt for your records. Congratulations, you're booked!!!

  • Once you're booked, I don't just fall off the planet not to be heard from until your wedding day. I am always available for any questions or concerns you may have, any changes I need to be made aware of and keeping up to speed with your wedding planning. If you have chosen to have an engagement session done, this will give you the opportunity to spend some time with me, become familiar with how I work and in a way, its kind of a trial run before your big day! I also offer you the option of helping you to plan your wedding day timeline. This is entirely optional, but highly recommended! Many times, my couples don't know how much time will be needed for specific moments throughout the wedding day, such as bridal and family portraits. Although every wedding is different and my couples' needs vary, I am knowledgeable of how much time should be allocated per photographic moment and I can help you plan your day so that you can be as stress-free as possible and enjoy your time with your guests!

  • Another important recommendation in the months to come before your wedding, is to become familiar with your other vendors, especially if your wedding plans are grand in nature. If possible, I like to have a list of the other vendors so that I may introduce myself prior to the wedding and coordinate with them if necessary. For example, if you will be having a wedding day coordinator, its nice to be able to familiarize myself with how he/she works and vice versa so that we understand one another's responsibilities. Another example is if you will be having a videographer; photographers and videographers work in close proximity with one another throughout the day and having a good understanding of how the other person works allows for us to work together fluidly without getting in each other's way.

  • Your moment has finally arrived!! All your hard work, months of planning and spending have finally brought you to your big day! Don't fret, all your important moments will be skillfully and joyfully documented! Here is a general overview of what to expect from me ~
  • I will arrive early to get set up and tour the venue to scout the perfect locations for your portraits. I do generally visit a venue prior to the wedding day, but as life sometimes throws us curveballs, I like to reevaluate and reassess this on the wedding day. If your coverage includes an additional photographer, he/she will arrive at the same time as I do.
  • Once I am set up and ready to go, I will collect all bridal details and photograph them (wedding gown, shoes, wedding rings, all jewelry, veil, garter, bouquets, invitations, etc.).
  • After the details have been photographed, I will move forward to photograph the bride getting ready (hair, makeup, getting into her gown) and then the groom's final touches.
  • Reception details and decorations (tablescapes, floral arrangements, decorations, the cake, etc.)
  • Individual bridal portraits of bride and groom if scheduled prior to ceremony.
  • First look ~ optional
  • Ceremony ~ full coverage
  • Bridal portraits
  • Family portraits
  • Candid shots of guests
  • Reception ~ partial or full coverage dependent on your package

  • While you are away on your honeymoon and basking in the afterglow of your gorgeous wedding, I will be working very hard to get your wedding gallery to you as soon as possible. Your wedding day will yield hundreds of beautiful images and I will carefully and meticulously curate the best images from your day and then individually edit them. Although my turnaround time is listed between 4-6 weeks, I typically deliver my couples their completed wedding gallery around 3 weeks post wedding day. If you have chosen a package which includes a photo book or you choose to include a photo book to your existing package, you will have the opportunity to proof all completed wedding images and then choose which photos you wish to be included into the book as well as choose from a variety of design options. You will have 6 months from your wedding day to have an album created. The estimated delivery time for a photo book is roughly 1 month.
  • As listed in the package options above, you will receive your wedding images via Pixieset, which is a professional image delivery website. Pixieset allows you the ability to either download your entire wedding gallery or individual images onto a desktop as well as the ability to select images for print. If your package includes prints, they will be included at the same time.
  • I offer every couple a 3 year digital file warranty. This means that every image from your wedding will be stored and backed up for 3 years. So in the event you were to lose your images, they will still be available to you within this time frame.

That was a lot of information to take in, huh?! So if you're still here and you like what you've seen and want to learn more, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me! I'd really love to learn about you and your plans and it would be a privilege to photograph your wedding!!
